St Pius X Parish, together with the Fr John McEvoy, the parish priest and the Columbans in the Fiji Region, warmly welcomed Fr Kevin O'Neill, the Superior General of the Missionary Society of St Columban on Saturday, 9th July, 3:30 PM at the Parish Hall. After the formal ceremony, the Superior General was asked to give a short message to the parishioners present. He thanked them for their generous and unwavering support to the Columban Missionaries over the years.
After the formalities, the Columban Seminarians performed two items: a short skit of the humble beginnings of the Missionary Society which was founded primarily for mission to China--which now snowballed into different countries throughout the world--and a dance medley. The first holy communion students also performed the Creation Story (Genesis).
A lovely dinner was prepared and shared after the short program.
The following day, Sunday (10 July), Fr Kevin celebrated the 8:30 AM Mass in the parish. During his homily, again he expressed deep appreciation to the support that the Fijian people have shown and given to the Columban Missionaries in the country and abroad. He stressed the value of the Fijian people's faith and attitude to be able to smile away despite the hardships faced (ie Cyclone Winston). He also invited young men and women to ask their hearts if they might have the desire to be missionaries.
After the Mass, a morning tea was shared with short stories around the bati ni tanoa.
On behalf of the Parish Priest and the whole Parish team, we would like to extend deepest appreciation to all the Communities, who came and help to make the weekend a successful parish event.
