Columban Fiji Centenary Celebrations

Today 29th June 2018, The Society of St Columban in Fiji wish to thank our friends and Parishioners from all over Fiji who came together to celebrate with us the Centenary of our Foundation (29th June 1918). A huge word of thanks to the way-away parishes of Ba & Labasa who came in great numbers and indeed to all who worked and prepared for the events of this wonderful, joyful & colourful day. The day started with a con-celebrated Mass led by Archbishop Peter Loy Chong - Archbishop of Suva. He told us how he was inspired by the Missionary work of the Columbans as a young seminarian. Talks on aspects of Mission in the Pacific and in Fiji was followed by lunch. The afternoon was given over to entertainment - song, drama, cultural items and dances - almost all had a missionary theme. The central attraction was a Meke (Fijian Cultural dance by the school children of Votua Catholic School from the parish of Ba. Our photos here will give you an idea of a wonderful celebration.
